"The recoil"
That's the number one reason why many people love gas blow backs, or gbb for short.
It may sound unproductive in the airsoft world, a place where people will do anything to get more fps, more rps, tighter groupings, faster trigger response.
Gas blow backs are just the opposite -- they are the airsoft counter-culture.
Let's play a fun little game of logic. Question: What's the number one reason why people play airsoft? Answer: It's as close to firing a real gun without killing someone. Manufacturers have gone great lengths to create a product that looks like real steel, and weighs just like the real thing as well. The only variable missing is feel.
Come closer
People who want that extra boost in realism will detract from the batteries, high speed gear boxes, and 470 round hi-caps in favor of compressed air, trigger sets, and real steel-based 30 round magazines. Trust people when they say this, "when you go gas, you never go back".
Advantages of GBB
- Less moving parts = less parts to worry about breaking
- Easier to disassemble
- Recoil, Recoil, Recoil
- Cheaper lifetime upkeep
- Easier to field strip, clean, and diagnose
- Did we mention less parts to worry about?
Disadvantages of GBB
- Higher initial startup cost, mostly due to mags being so gahdamn expensive
- More prone to breaking when fired at full auto for long periods of time
- Less accuracy
- Less bbs
- Green gas is expensive
